How long will it take to manufacture my house number or name plate?

Your house number will be processed in a batch in order to keep our prices competitive. We routinely process a batch at the end of each month and sometimes mid-month according to demand. If you require your house number by a particular date (e.g. for a birthday present) please let us know when you place the order.

Will my house number need cleaning?

All our house numbers and name plates are laser cut from 304 grade brushed stainless steel which is a hard wearing material. Finished items will stay bright for a long period of time (unlike brass!) and will require only occasional cleaning with a proprietary metal polish to keep them in good condition.

Are screws and instructions supplied for fixing?

Yes. All our house numbers and names plates are supplied with the correct number of stainless steel screws and wall plugs together with instructions of how to fix them in place.

Which letter height is right for me?

Our 55mm range has been designed for use directly onto front doors etc. The larger 95mm range is intended for walls, gates, pillars etc. Our range of individual frameless house numbers gives you even more flexibility but items can be manufactured to any size you require (just ask!). One of the most important things to consider is whether your house name or number can be viewed from the road. This is a requirement under most local bylaws (so that the emergency services can identify your address).

Can I have any font (typeface)?

Not all fonts are suitable for processing in this way which is why you need our advice on a suitable design. Many fonts will work and we will endeavor to create anything a customer wishes. Quotations for bespoke work of this nature are available from enquiries@housenumbers.co.uk

Can I have a design with the numbers breaking out of the frame like the number 17 shown in a circle on the homepage?

This design solution only works well for double digit numbers and not all number combinations are ideal. Numbers which can be positioned to naturally breakout of the surrounding frame work well (e.g. 1, 2, 4, 5, 7) the others are less effective for this approach. If you want your house number to be designed like this just advise us in the ‘special instructions’ field.

How secure is a frame with a single fixing point like the number 17 shown in a circle on the homepage?

This elegant design solution is the simplest house number to install. If you are not good at DIY this is the solution for you (it essentially self-levels just like a pendulum). However, if you are concerned about its security because of the nature of your neighbourhood or its proximity to passers by you can request a second fixing point.

What is a ‘stand-off’?

A ‘stand-off’ is a circular disc of 5mm thick acrylic which is used to stand the finished frame off of the surface to which it is mounted. It creates a distinctive ‘drop-shadow’ especially when front lit which increases the impact of the house number or name plate. It is also very useful when mounting numbers or name plates onto uneven surfaces, for example rough rendered surfaces.

Can I use stand-offs with any products from the range?

No. Stand-offs are suitable for use only on the following products; with 95mm Square and Rectangle Frames; with 95mm Oval Offset Frames; with Framed Name Plates; with any of the individual frameless numbers.

Can I have a house number or name plate without fixing holes?

Yes. You simply need to advise us of this requirement using the ‘special instructions’ field of the order form.

Can I see what my house number or name plate will look like before it is produced?

Yes. Artwork is always supplied for approval in the form of an image file (.jpg). This common format is both easy to view and to print. At this stage of the order process it is possible to request a change to the design, e.g. Can I see what it will look like in an alternative font? Please note that we only allow multiple changes to artwork for house name plate designs which usually require an exchange of emails with you to reach a final design solution.

How can I price my house name?

House names require a little more Computer Aided Design work in order to create the file for processing. Prices for ‘underlined’ versions start from £55.00 for 5 letters in a 55mm letter height plus £2.00 for each additional letter. An example is given in the table below.

£65 £2 £2 £2 £2 £2 £2 = £77

All house name plate prices are based on 55mm letter height. Letters at 55mm high will produce a name plate approximately 450mm – 500mm long, depending on the number of letters. Contact us to discuss your name plaque size.

How are the self-adhesive numbers fixed?

We provide your number with self-peel VHB tape attached to your number. Very Hi-Bond tape is a High Strength Foamed Acrylic double sided tape and can be used to replace screws, rivets, spot welds and liquid adhesives for permanent bonds. It is an ideal application for signage. This tape has incredible strength and may be used with metal, plastics, glass etc. VHB tape reliably bonds stainless steel to uPVC eliminating the need for drilling and unsightly fasteners.
