Frequently Asked Questions
- How long will it take to manufacture my house number or name plate?
If your order is not a stock item your house number will be processed in a batch in order to keep our prices competitive. We routinely process a batch every two weeks according to demand. If you require your house number by a particular date (e.g. for a birthday present) please let us know when you place the order.
- Do you stock some items?
We try to routinely stock most of our individual house numbers and door numbers @ 75mm, 95mm and 150mm heights. If the item you require is not in stock we will e-mail you with an expected delivery date. Please contact us to check before you order if you want a speedy delivery.
- Will my house number need cleaning?
All our house numbers and name plates are laser cut from 304 grade brushed stainless steel which is a hard wearing material. Finished items will stay bright for a long period of time (unlike brass!) and will require only occasional cleaning with a proprietary metal polish to keep them in good condition.
- Are screws and instructions supplied for fixing?
Yes. All our house numbers and names plates are supplied with the correct number of stainless steel screws and wall plugs together with instructions of how to fix them in place.
- How do the hidden fixings work?
Our hidden fixings are suitable for brick/masonry. We provide your numbers with two stainless weld studs on the back and brass pins which screw onto these weld studs. The number then pushes securely into your drilled holes in your wall. The pins stand away 5mm from the wall to give you a stand-off. We provide an easy pictorial instruction guide and a drilling template for installing your number. To see a pdf file of our hidden fixings instructions please go to our useful information page. If you need a hidden fixing suitable for wood we can provide this so contact us before you place your order.
- Are the hidden fixings suitable for a door?
We recommend these for brick/masonry. Our self-adhesive or screw fixing options are suitable for doors. However, we can supply a number with a hidden stud for pushing into a wooden door or fence. Please contact us before you order if you would like this option.
- How are the self-adhesive numbers fixed?
We provide your number with self-peel VHB tape attached to your number. Very Hi-Bond tape is a high strength foamed acrylic double sided tape and can be used to replace screws, rivets, spot welds and liquid adhesives for permanent bonds. It is an ideal application for signage. This tape has incredible strength and may be used with metal, plastics, glass etc. VHB tape reliably bonds stainless steel to uPVC eliminating the need for drilling and unsightly fasteners.
- Which number height is right for me?
Our framed numbers are intended for walls, gates, pillars etc. Our range of individual house and door numbers gives you even more flexibility but items can be manufactured to any size you require (just ask!). One of the most important things to consider is whether your house name or number can be viewed from the road. This is a requirement under most local bylaws (so that the emergency services can identify your address).
- Can I have any font (typeface)?
Not all fonts are suitable for processing in this way which is why you need our advice on a suitable design. Many fonts will work and we will endeavor to create anything a customer wishes. Quotations for bespoke work of this nature are available by ringing us on 01258 452826 or using our contact form.
- Can I see what my house number or name plate will look like before it is produced?
Yes, if you are ordering a framed, stencil or house name, artwork is always supplied for approval in the form of an image file (.jpg). This common format is both easy to view and to print. At this stage of the order process it is possible to request a change to the design, e.g. Can I see what it will look like in an alternative font? Please note that we only allow multiple changes to artwork for house name plate designs which usually require an exchange of emails with you to reach a final design solution.
- Can I get a discount on multiple orders?
We are always pleased to offer quotations to architects, property developers, house builders, hotels, housing associations, etc. We have a proven track record of supplying signage for corporate projects. Please contact us for further details.
